Video Trimming

I set my trim start and finish marks on my video, clicked apply and it seems to have saved the trim area and deleted everything else. I am left with the portion I did not want and am unable to retrieve the part I did want. It does not seem to have saved the original in the recycle bin.  Is there an error with the functionality? Can I at least retrieve the original video?
