Azure AD SSO for Home grown application

Question

Can Azure AD be used to provide SSO capabilities for application developed internally (home grown)? Application is client based (installed on a workstation) and has its own database of users.

If you have Azure Premium P1 licenses you can, but the Home Grown app will have to be coded if it doesn't support SAML 2.0 interface.
