Azure AD Syncronization Problem

Goodmorning everyone
I found Azure AD Connect installed on a customer with the following active parameters. User Principal Name = mail
I tried to align UPS UserLogonName in AD by matching it to the email address. After the synchronization phase the user is deleted in Azure AD.
I ask for help and clarifications. I would like to align PRINCIPAL USER NAME with AD's userprincipalname attribute. What I find to be the default configuration. I can ?
