Today, we published the second episode of the series on Managing Windows updates from the cloud, a topic fundamental to Windows management.

The ways we work have undergone monumental changes in recent years, dramatically altering how organizations fundamentally think about user productivity and experience. In this new era of work, we are constantly innovating in the endpoint management space, both in the cloud and on-premises, so organizations can adapt to new realities without having to make drastic changes in IT operations.

Earlier this year, we kicked off a new series dedicated to cloud-based Windows management that takes a closer look at the device-management journey and what is required for organizations to provide the best user experience by ensuring devices are up to date and secure, to keep users working productively from anywhere. In our newest episode, we highlight how you can simplify the update management process with an efficient ring strategy and the granular controls available in Windows Update for Business using policies in Endpoint Manager.

Check out the latest Mechanics show on cloud-based Windows update management using Endpoint Manager:

Why is this show for you?

If you are an IT decision maker exploring the benefits of moving to cloud-based update management, or an IT admin responsible for creating, monitoring, and maintaining Windows updates using Configuration Manager or Windows Server Update Services and would like to learn more about automated patching from the cloud using Microsoft Endpoint Manager – you are in the right place.

You have a lot of options to manage and deliver Windows updates from the cloud, and each offers a unique level of control. At the foundation for cloud managed updates, you can directly manage Windows Update for Business policy controls in Windows using Active Directory Group Policy. To simplify and enhance the controls using the same underlying Windows Update for Business policy options, Microsoft Endpoint Manager gives you a more intuitive admin experience to manage update delivery and monitor update status across your devices. Endpoint Manager was also the first experience to enable management using Update Ring policies and deliver Windows 11 in the same way you would deliver Windows feature updates. If you are managing endpoints in Configuration Manager and would like to explore a more simplified way of managing updates using Endpoint Manager, the first step is to cloud attach.

Wait! What is cloud attach?

We often get asked by customers what is cloud attach and how is this different from the more familiar terms like co-management or tenant attach? In simple terms, cloud attach means enabling both co-management and tenant attach. But, it is so much more than just a feature. Cloud attach is the means for organizations using Configuration Manager to have even more flexibility in managing endpoints without having to choose between security, compliance and supporting new work realities.

Enabled cloud attach. What's next?

Every organization has different challenges in moving to the cloud, and it's important to understand the risk associated with each step in this journey. In Configuration Manager, enabling cloud attach is the recommended first step that enables access to the cloud console. The Endpoint Manager cloud console is the gateway to a ton of new capabilities, while it ensures the ability to use existing Configuration Manager features like CM Pivot, script and application deployment, and much more from a centralized console. The second step is to consider moving workloads like Windows update policies and others to the cloud, based on the existing configuration and organizational needs. If you have questions on what scenarios should be considered to move a workload, here's a great opportunity to join the upcoming AMA: Enabling cloud-based device management with cloud attach event and get your questions answered from our product experts on July 21st.
