We are happy to announce the release of SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) v 9.0. Data movement or data migration is key activity during the cutover. Organizations are looking for ways to reduce downtime and have a fail-safe scalable migration to Azure. With this release, we have revamped the current v8. * data migration experience and integrated with other Azure services and Azure data studio extensions (Database migration for Oracle) to create a unified experience.
SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) Access, DB2, MySQL, Oracle, and SAP ASE (formerly SAP Sybase ASE) allow users to access and convert a database schema to a Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL (IaaS and PaaS) compatible schema, deploy the schema, and then migrate data to the target SQL Server (see below for supported versions).
The latest release of SSMA enhances the assessment and conversion capabilities of the tool with a targeted set of fixes designed to improve quality and conversion metrics. This release includes the following:
Data Migration at Scale
The new at scale data migration capability allows users to migrate data at source to Azure SQL target using Azure Data factory. This new offline data movement will allow end users to reduce the migration downtime by at least 2-4X compared to client-side and server side migrations.
Enhanced conversion capability for User Defined Datatypes in SSMA for Oracle
