Prevent members from starting a meeting within larger Teams Channel

Copper Contributor

Hello! Currently, there are no options to prevent group members from starting a random/rogue Teams Meeting within our larger Teams (around 2,000 people). Can we get a feature that allows you to prevent all members except owners or select individuals from starting Teams Meetings within the group?

It's creating a nuisance with some members not fully understanding the platform and starting random meetings that ping the entire group, with us having to send out formal "disciplinary"-type emails on the back end. This is not a great user experience for all.

@Andrea_Medina Hi, you can use this meeting policy.

-AllowChannelMeetingScheduling
Determines whether a user can schedule channel meetings. Set this to TRUE to allow a user to schedule channel meetings. Set this to FALSE to prohibit the user from scheduling channel meetings. Note this only restricts from scheduling and not from joining a meeting scheduled by another user.

It sounds like that affects the user's ability to create meetings in channels in ANY Team. Is there a way to do it per channel/team?

Eg. prevent users from creating channel meetings in the General Channel of the Org-Wide Team, but allow them to create channel meetings in other Teams?

@sd adm

This is still an issue with Teams.  There is evidently no way to limit the scheduling of meetings in a specific channel, unless you affect the users' the ability to create meetings in all channels.

@evanbartley , Thanks!
I'd last engaged with MS Support re: preventing users from creating meetings in the Org-Wide general channel some time ago, so I wasn't sure if that was still the case or if it had changed.

@Andrea_Medina I agree that this is a nuisance problem which needs to be addressed for the domain level Team.

This happens at least once a month with an ERG which includes over 1000 members, including some executives. There NEEDS TO BE an option to restrict the ability for non-Owners to create channel meetings or meetings on behalf of groups!
It's definitely an issue for the domain level team that your admin created, as well as the OOtB Org-Wide Team MS provides.
