On premise group to Office 365 group
We are starting to migrate our groups to the cloud and we found that there is a great big list of groups we've used in the past they are not elligible to be migrated, ie. mail enabled security group, nested groups, groups without owners assigned, etc.
What I wanted to ask is- is it possible to mail disable a security group and then make it new in the cloud as a office 365 group with that same email address re-used?

Considering the "migration" process is just setting up membership and few attributes, you can simply do it manually or via PowerShell. I'd caution against converting to O365 groups in Hybrid scenarios, there's a loooong list of issues (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt668829(v=exchg.150).aspx)

As to the long list of issues with O365 groups & and Hybrid... does this only pertain to on-premise users? or everyone? Because about 90% of my company is already migrated into O365. We have a pretty small amount still left on-prem.
Most of the issues are for on-prem users, once you migrate to O365 they will be gone.
- Also I'd suggest cleaning up the ones that don't have an owner assigned and things like that. It will make it easier for you later.

Depending on how many and complex of these you have, you could look at exporting the memberships to CSV, deleting and starting again.
Although if you're using Azure Active Directory Connect then you should be able to sync most of the groups from on-prem AD into Azure AD.
