circumvent the DNS propagation by using xxx.onmicrosoft.com
I am looking to upgrade my domain server with my registrar. During this process I will need to update all my of Office 365 DNS settings on the new server, thus causing the expected 24 to 48 hr DNS propagation to public ISP nodes.
Unfortunately, this process will severely impact our 24/7 support staff, as they receive 70% of their tickets via email.
My question, when I 1st setup office 365, I received a "default" domain xxx.onmicrosoft.com, would it be possible to setup a temporary distro to that domain, then adding members to it that reside in my domain, as a "crutch" during the propagation period?
Basically, using xxx.onmicrosoft.com Transport server to talk with my "xxx.com" transport server to receive external emails during the propagation period.
Yes, you can always use that domain - setup new objects with email addresses @tenant.onmicrosoft.com or simply add such aliases to existing objects. The problem there is how people sending messages will know to use this domain, but if it's some sort of a ticketing system, you should have no problem adjusting the address.
