Black blank new document in Word

Every time I create a blank document in Word it comes out black and not white. The only way I can change it is if I go to Design and change the page colour by clinking on black, which turns it white. It is most irritating. It has only happened just recently. Some people say go to the Advanced menu options go to Display and disable hardware graphics acceleration. But, it's not there on my version of Word. However, it is in Excel. I have the latest version of MS365 and it's fully updated. Can anyone help?
