Hi, Microsoft 365 Insiders! I'm Kat Orevillo, a Product Manager on the Loop team. I'm excited to share that you can now upload Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and PDF files to Loop workspaces, simplifying your workflow and giving your team all the context it needs to better collaborate.

Now upload your files to Loop workspaces

According to your feedback, many of you work across multiple file types (including Loop files) to collaborate with teammates, manage projects, or just collect knowledge around a topic. Now you can bring all these files together in a Loop Workspace using the “Upload a file” option!

How it works

  1. Go to the Loop app at https://loop.cloud.microsoft and navigate to your workspace.
  2. Select + Create New > Upload a file to access files on your device and on network shares.

Use the "Upload a file" option to add Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files to your Loop workspace

  3. Select the file (or files) you want to upload to your Loop workspace and select Open.
  4. When the upload is finished, your file(s) will appear alongside other pages and links in your workspace.

Tips and tricks

  • This feature supports the upload of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and PDF files. NOTE: Individual files cannot exceed 250 GB in size.
  • This feature supports multi-file uploads — try selecting multiple files at once to speed up your process.
  • Uploaded files are stored in your OneDrive for Business under My files > Loop > Workspace Uploads.

Availability

This feature has been fully rolled out to the preview audience of Microsoft Loop users.

Don’t have it yet? It’s probably us, not you.

Features are released over some time to ensure things are working smoothly. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Sometimes we remove elements to further improve them based on your feedback. Though this is rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product, even if you, as an Insider, have had the opportunity to try it.

Feedback

We’d love to know your thoughts about the new file upload feature in Loop! Click the Help button in the bottom right corner of the app to share your thoughts. Please use the hashtag #FileUpload in your comments so we can quickly identify feedback about this feature.

Great feature, but why not store the file directly within the workspace (SharePoint Embedded container)? Using OneDrive means the file won’t be available once the user leaves the company and their OneDrive is deleted or archived. Workspaces are already safe by becoming ownerless after the owner departures, so it would have been nice to ensure the workspace’s content is also protected. As it is, we’ll need to have governance and processes in place for when an employee leaves to identify the content and ask the workspace’s members or the user’s manager to take action.

Hello korevillo , what I do not understand is why the product teams at Microsoft never have a common configuration set.
Now, if I upload a file with that new option the file is shared to all people in my organization with Edit permissions, even if the SharePoint tenant has another default sharing configuration. Why is it so difficult for your product teams to handle default configuration in the same way?

TobiasAT Not everyone in your org has access, only if those who gets the link or already has access to the workspace. This uses your tenant default sharing settings, which can be changed from the SharePoint Admin center.

milkyway123 Internal accounts with the link have edit access, how they get the link doesn't matter.

This uses your tenant default sharing settings, which can be changed from the SharePoint Admin center.

In a normal case, this is the case. But not for the new upload option in Loop Workspace.
Take this configuration. In a normal case, a shared file has the permission "People with existing access (or specific people) can read the file". Not if users upload the file via Loop Workspace. So Loop clearly ignores the default sharing configuration.
