Outlook Crashing with faulting uiautomation.dll

Copper Contributor

Hi all,

Was wondering if any of you have come across an issue we have recently been hit with.

Users are experiencing sporadic and frequent hangs of their Outlook client. There doesn't seem to be any pattern. Each time, however, we notice an event log noting a faulty uiautomation.dll

We are running Windows 8.1, with the latest updates. Office 365 Version 1609 (Build 7369.2055), but version doesn't appear to make any difference.

We have tried different versions of Office, both from Deferred Channel and First release Deferred Channel. We have tried updating the Displaylink driver (there is a known fault with a particular version, with Office 2016 and Win10) and removing it completly, removing all plug-ins, removing the Mimecaset (email continuity) plug-in, driver updates, rebuilding laptops. What's weirder, the issue seems to be with a select few users across several different laptops. OffCat isn't showing anything unusual.

Some users have mentioned the error when receiving certain calendar invites/updates, but we aren't sure this is a guaranteed pattern. There is a lot of delegate access/calender and invite sharing, but not sure this is related.

We have a ticket logged with Microsoft, but making fairly slow progress. Has anyone seen anything this bizarre? Any suggestions or tips appreaciated!

Thank you.

I'm guessing this support note doesn't help you much, as it just tells you to upgrade. It's interesting that the build number in the support note details is 16.0.6965.2058 which isn't that far from your 10.2.6965.2092.
