Email Retention policy - What does "No Policy" do if is selected?

Copper Contributor

Hello all,

What does "No Policy" do if is selected in mailbox features/retention policy?

I was asked this question today by a senior peer.

I could guess and say it means "No Policy" will be applied to the account's email and a message will only be deleted if the user chooses to delete it during the life of her/his account. But need confirmation.

Also, is there some other default policy in place with a O365 mailbox that might delete or archive older items?

Plus, if say a 5 year retention policy is put in place. Will this also archive deleted items?

Thanks in advance Guru's :)

Means that no default/folder-level tags will be applied. Users can still choose to apply "personal" tags defined in the tenant. It's all detailed in the documentation: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/security-and-compliance/messaging-records-management/reten...
