I've loved the "Install this site as an App" feature since it's IE equivalent, and use it quite a bit now that apps can just be Start Menu shortcuts rather than taking up space on the taskbar. I'd love the ability to create an Edge App that isn't specific to the user account though. We are moving away from having admin tools installed on IT Staff's individual desktops, and towards publishing them through an RDSH Farm. This works well for 'classic' applications or MMC tools, but more and more tools are becoming browser-based. Whilst I have MS Edge installed on the Session Hosts, and I can publish a shortcut to launch edge to a particular address, I'd like to be able to use the fully immersive "app" experience through the Farm too.1.1KViews0likes1CommentEarly preview of Microsoft Edge group policies
Update July 22nd 2019: Hey folks, Thanks for all the great feedback! We announced last week that Edge is now ready for Enterprise evaluations. You can find the latest ADMX files and MSIs/PKGs here: https://www.microsoftedgeinsider.com/enterprise And you can find all the enterprise-focused documentation here: https://docs.microsoft.com/DeployEdge There is also an Enterprise-focused section of these Insider forums which the team will be monitoring. Direct link here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Enterprise/bd-p/EdgeInsiderEnterprise Thanks again for the great feedback and engagement. Looking forward to continuing to hear from all of you! (Note: I have removed the ADMX zip file which was originally attached to this mail. Please see the latest versions at the links above) Original post follows: Hi everyone, We've been asked fairly regularly what policies we intend to support. We're still working on the list, but I’d like to share an early preview of the management policies we are working on for the new version of Microsoft Edge. You can find a zip file attached to this post, that includes the ADMX file, an English (US) version of the ADML file, and an English (US) HTML doc with the list of policies and descriptions. Please note that not all of the associated policies have been implemented by current canary or dev builds! Please send us feedback on the list, or the description text in the policies if something seems unclear. IMPORTANT This is a work in progress. We are sharing this early draft with you for your feedback, but the list will change between now and our final release, with policies being added, removed or changed based on feedback. The HTML file includes both Mac and Windows policies. Policies for managing updates aren’t included; those will be in a separate administrative template file. These are only in English (US). We are working to localize the policy descriptions and documentation before our final release. Please let us know if there are policies missing from the list, and give us feedback on the policy design. Thanks for your interest! So previously there was this post from this source saying Microsoft will be pushing out the new Edge via Windows Update to the majority of Windows 10 users, but the documentation on Microsoft's website has changed now, here are the newly added information: Update 01/09/2020 To help our customers become more secure and up-to-date, Microsoft will distribute Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) to Home and Pro Edition devices running Windows 10 version 1803 via Windows Update. This process will start after January 15th, 2020 and more information will be available on that date. The Blocker Toolkit is intended for organizations that would like to block automatic delivery of Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) on devices running Windows 10 version 1803 and newer that are running the Home or Pro Edition of Windows. All other versions and Editions of Windows are excluded from being updated automatically. Devices running Windows 10 Home or Pro Edition that are joined to an Active Directory or Azure Active Directory domain, are MDM managed, or are WSUS or WUfB managed, will also be excluded from this automatic update." No enterprise versions of Windows will be automatically updated, meaning the Blocker Toolkit is just needed if you run Home and Pro on your enterprise network, and if they are not joined to a Domain. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployEdge/microsoft-edge-blocker-toolkit4.8KViews2likes6CommentsFeatures Needed To Make Chromium Edge a True Replacement for IE and old Edge
As an Enterprise IT Administrator, I will have some missionary work within my organization for this to get deployed as a replacement for IE and old Edge browsers. But for me to be able to evangelize this product, I and my users will need the following two features for starters: Permit the addition of o365 accounts instead of just a generic Microsoft Account. See attached image. This was the very first thing I attempted after installing Chromium Edge this afternoon. Facilitate the ability to use the 'Open With Explorer' feature and not have to implement the machinations described here1KViews0likes1Comment
