New Office 365 Tab Behavior in the On-premises Exchange Admin Center

With the release of Exchange Server H1 2022 CUs, we have changed the experience of Exchange hybrid customers accessing Office 365 tab in the Exchange admin center (EAC) for their on-premises Exchange servers. Specifically, we have changed the functionality of the tab because the feature used an iFrame to show cross-site content (which is not a security best practice).

After installing the H1 2022 CU, the Exchange Online admin center will open in a new browser tab instead of the same browser tab as it did before.

If you did not install the H1 2022 CU and you click on the Office 365 tab in on-premises EAC:

You will be directed to a page that displays an HTTP 410 error because the linked page no longer exists. The error page includes a link to the EAC in Exchange Online that can be used by admins to manage their Exchange Online settings and to the Hybrid Configuration Wizard:

In short:

  • If you see the HTTP 410 response when clicking on the Office 365 tab, please install the latest CU to resolve this.
  • If you haven’t installed the H1 2022 CUs or if your hybrid server is running Exchange Server 2013, use the “please click here” link to go to the new EAC in Exchange Online.

In addition to making the above change, we’ve also simplified the Hybrid tab of the EAC, as shown below. The new experience provides admins with an option to download the Hybrid Configuration Wizard (HCW).

We hope this helps you understand these changes, and we look forward to hearing your feedback.
