Hello everyone! Today we are releasing the second Technical Preview for October, Update 1810.2 for Technical Preview Branch of System Center Configuration Manager. This release allows you to convert your existing Windows Installer (.msi) applications to the MSIX format.

MSIX is the Windows app package format that provides a modern packaging experience to all Windows apps. The MSIX package format preserves the functionality of existing app packages and/or install files in addition to enabling new, modern packaging and deployment features to Win32, WPF, and WinForm apps. Starting in the 1810.2 Technical Preview of System Center Configuration Manager, you can run a conversion wizard directly from the Configuration Manager console that will help you convert your existing .msi applications to the MSIX format.

This preview release also includes:

Configuration Manager site administrator authentication - You can now specify the minimum level of authentication your administrators must use to access Configuration Manager sites.

New Management Insights rule to verify peer cache source update requirements - When you update the site to the latest version of Configuration Manager, this rule verifies that you also update all peer cache sources (version lower than 1806) to the latest client version.

New client notification action to wake up devices – You can now wake up Configuration Manager clients from the device or collections view in the console.

Simplified scheduling of full collection evaluation - Starting in this release, it is easier to configure a query-based collection to not update. Existing collections where "Schedule a full update on this collection" was unchecked but had a schedule set, will continue to update on the assigned schedule.

Update 1810.2 for Technical Preview Branch is available in the Configuration Manager Technical Preview console. For new installations please use the 1810.2 baseline version of Configuration Manager Technical Preview Branch available on TechNet Evaluation Center. Technical Preview Branch releases give you an opportunity to try out new Configuration Manager features in a test environment before they are made generally available.

We would love to hear your thoughts about the latest Technical Preview!  Send us Feedback directly from the console.  You may also use our feedback channels through the Feedback Hub app for product issues, and our UserVoice page for ideas about new features.

Thanks,

The System Center Configuration Manager team
