Licenses required to retain access to historic data

Hi Team,

Please validate if below statement is true.

We need to know the minimum number of FO licenses required to retain access to historic data on F&O as the client is migrating from on-prem FO to the Business Central cloud. We believe it should be 1 according to resources available to us, but we have been told we may require all 20 FO Licenses to retain access. Please confirm which it is.

Regards,

Kumar

  • Hi Kumar402

hmmm.... I'm not sure that I understand the licensing question aspect of your question.

To clarify your scenario, you'd like to migrate D365 F&O OnPrem to Business Central (BC) Online, correct?  If so, I'm not sure that your scenario is a supported migration path since these are obviously two different products; therefore, you should use configuration packages and templates to migrate their data to Business Central on-premises, and then use the cloud migration tool to switch to Business Central online.  For more information, see

      Hi @LicensingConcierge1

      Thanks for the prompt response!!!

If we want to retain the access to historical data in F&O after successful migration. do we need to all 20 licenses to be active or we can proceed with 1(single) user license to access.

      Regards,
      Kumar

        Hi Kumar402

        The focus is on capacity.

You need to determine if the existing OnPrem F&O licenses can be migrated to Business Central/BC. If so, you'll be able to move the data to BC OnPrem, then follow the rest of the process & determine if you need to purchase addt'l BC capacity

Please carefully review the links provided in my initial response. There is an FAQ at the bottom of the first link that explains how your OnPrem data (your historic F&O data) is migrated using a configuration packageFAQ about Migrating to Business Central Online - Business Central | Microsoft Learn
