Intro

Following the upgrade of the Legacy Queries discovery experiences announced in this blog post, we are happy to announce that the Legacy Query save and edit experiences have also been upgraded with a new, modern, improved experience.

Saving a query

To save a query, select 'save' from Log Analytics' top action bar:

Save entry point.pngChoose 'save' to save your query.

Please note, we recommend saving your query to a Query Pack. Learn more about Query packs in this blog post.

However, If you need to save your query as a Legacy Query - you can check the 'save as Legacy Query' checkbox in the save screen:

Note: As Legacy Queries don't support rich metadata the screen will update and only allow metadata supported in Legacy Queries.

Update your query name and category, and click 'save'.
Your Legacy Query will be saved to the workspace.

Note: Legacy Queries are only supported in Log Analytics workspaces and Application insights Components. Other Log Analytics instances will not have the option to save as Legacy Queries.

Editing a query

To edit a Legacy Query load it to a new tab.
Update the query as needed and click the 'save' button in the Log Analytics top action bar:
Edit Query details.pngClick the 'Edit Query Details' button and update the query as needed.

Note: You may save a Legacy Query to a Query Pack using the 'save' button, this will create a copy of the query with updated metadata in a Query Pack. To learn more about saving a query to a Query Pack click here.
