Device authentication of constrained device in Azure

Hello everyone.

I'm writing a thesis on authentication methods for IoT-FoG-Cloud environments and i'm now studying Azure IoT system in order to have a better understanding of the issues about authentication and authorization.

Let's suppose that i have a pre-build IoT network built with some network technology optimized for constrained devices such as lorawan. Let's say that i want to "upgrade" my structure to a fog-cloud structure and i want to use Azure IoT, how is this integration done? devices are still authenticated inside lorawan using lorawan techniques such as OOTA and ABP? how are the FoG nodes authenticated inside lorawan? Are there any best practices to connect devices to fog and fog to cloud?

Thank you.
