New Update Experience for Mac available in Edge Beta / Dev / Canary
Getting updates timely and smoothly is key to keeping web browsers secure. It also helps you try new experiences sooner on a fast-moving browser like Microsoft Edge. Since Microsoft Edge launched on MacOS, we have heard your feedback on the update experience on Mac devices, specifically: Having to update through Microsoft AutoUpdate can be confusing, especially since it typically is used to update the Office suite applications. edge://settings/help was not always consistent with Microsoft AutoUpdate in showing update availability Update experience was not rapid: when you close and then reopen your browser when a new update is available, you will need to wait until the update is applied before browser restarts. We are now excited to announce an improved update experience on Mac to address your feedback, making updating faster and smoother. This experience is currently rolled out to Mac users (both Intel and M1 users) on Beta versions higher than 93.0.961.11, Dev versions higher than 91.0.852.0 or Canary versions higher than 90.0.816.0 behind a feature flag. Here are some highlights of the new experience: The new update experience is now Edge-native. It will solely be responsible for updating Edge-related products and will not be affected (e.g. blocked) by other pending product updates. Updates will happen automatically and silently, and no out-of-Edge notifications/toasts will be shown. Update sizes are now reduced by as much as 80% on average! This speeds up updates by over two thirds! edge://settings/help now more consistently reflects update status and allows seamless updates. In-app update notifications are promptly reflected when an update becomes available. When you restart the browser when an update is available, your browser will now instantly relaunch with the updated version rather than wait for update to be applied. On the August 21 update we got an https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-edge-dev-channel-update-makes-tracking-prevention-fully-available that included Added support for exiting full screen mode using the ESC key on Mac. This has, however, made it so a single tap of ESC will exit any maximized/full screen mode window. This is very problematic, as when working in full screen, if I get an on-site pop up or dialog box, hitting esc often takes me entirely out of full screen, and I have to re-configure my setup, bouncing back and forth, constantly. Question: Is there any way to disable this function? It's killing my workflow Suggestion: Make it double tapping ESC, single makes for too many accidents. Since updating to Microsoft Edge Version 81.0.416.53 for macOS, my Office 365 account has been permanently logged out of the browser. When I sign in, I receive a message prompt that reads: "A server error occurred. [2600]" Hoping there is a fix underway. We have discussed the 2x to close tabs last time. i think that using browsers without the need to use the keyboard is the best browsing experience we can get. this means to use only trackpad and the mac display. At the moment on ghostbrowser i use gestures like 3 tap go to next tab; extensions to go back, next tab, merge windows, etc. i think you should implement something like better touch tool (there are different gestures example) in edge. examples: -drag a tab with 2 finder down = reopen the main page (this mean if i visit a then b ... to z, you open again a)* - 4 finder tap: save pdf - spread fingers to open a random page or to open multiple random pages* (example if the website has a link like xxx.com/xxx/page=1 you open page 35, 46, 87). we configure such things (like how many tabs, the exact interval for each website) inside setting. - circle with 1 finger to search selected text in pubmed, with 2 finders in edge store .... other example (that i don't use at all, because i don't like it) are for what would we use gesture? save/download go next/previous page (from page 3 to 4) previous/next tab merge windows search open tabs (random, or open page 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 at the same time, then other 10, so 11,12,...,20)* go to the first page you opened* copy/share urls etc. * this can be added inside edge without gestures too, because at the moment is not possible (except via extensions). I'm using Windows 10 latest version with Mac 10.15.4 both running latest Microsoft Edge Version 82.0.459.1 (Official build) canary (64-bit) on Windows I have only 1 collection with few items in it edge://sync-internals/ this screenshot is from Windows 10. but on Mac I see I have 3 collections. I recently (an hour ago) deleted some collections that I didn't need from Edge on Windows but they are not Properly syncing back to other machines. this screenshot is from Mac. so right now there are some collections that are only on Mac but not on Windows and Edge sync doesn't do anything about them. I tried fully closing and reopening Edge on Mac but didn't help. also tried pressing the "Trigger GetUpdates" button on edge://sync-internals/ but there doesn't seem to be any new updates for Mac to get from Windows the Collection sync is only half way broken, not entirely. when I add all open tabs on Mac to a collection, I can see the new collection on Windows after few seconds (Not automatically, only after pressing Trigget GetUpdates button as shown above). let me know if you need any more info to solve Collection sync problem, thanks.optional suggestion: new menu bar app for mac
i wish i could launch one of my edge profile (no matter from which edge) directly in the menu bar. so you create a profile launcher.app and then i can search a profile installed on my 4 browser, without need to launch a browser. at the moment we can do similar things once the browser is launched using the dock icon or using the sync icon or using the menu bar option inside edge. but there is still the limit that we can do it for one browser. we cannot search profiles installed on all 4 browser. plus every time you launch the browser, you open the last used profile. so we first need to close and then switch (which requires time). profile switching is slower in edge compared to google. now with this new app you would simply launch a profile inside an edge app, without launching the previous profile.SS11: Datahoarding Suggestions - Save PDF, Save Page, Save Images, One Drive, Web Archive, etc.

Suggestion (SS): 40 Classification: DATAHOARDING On Vivaldi i see different people posting other suggestions related to hoarding, so i decided to post here my other suggestions too (part 1 https://link.ws/edgess11), even if i know not all users will use it. I know that such suggestions can be reached (or at least in some parts) via scripts, extensions, terminal or macapps and are not the main focus of browsers. Said that, if you are interested read the post, otherwise skip it. I give you simply ideas, and such ideas are really hoarding focused. I know that this is maybe not legal for all websites too. those are just ideas. First we start with a feature that i never discovered before and after trying it i discovered in opera for mac we need to use option. i tried on edge and is not supported 2) i already talked about overlay button with both integration to mac or to onedrive as destination, or save to different folders in right menu, or drag drop download, or other https://link.ws/edgedatahoarder. another option would be to add a download button below each video and photo, no matter where. 3) about a smart select feature i already reported you before. Implemented on datahoarding activities means select 20 links and download all pdf at the same time (or other files). 4) a feature to detect images, document, movies, pdf in the site and download all that at once, or download only pdf for example. About images, would be better to download the full image, and not small pictures. 5) maybe add both option save to mac and open pdf in tab and maybe using a different destination, so download to /user/blabla/pdf and maybe sorted by source website. in such way we can directly read the paper too, and if needed we can copy that to other clouds directly once you implement the suggestion of importing in onedrive or you can directly integrate an option save to onedrive and to mac at the same time. 6) a way to copy a single link to a list and then copy the whole url in this list (this doesn't mean to use edge collections). once we are done we could use such lists to download files via other web apps, or mac app or terminal 7) a way to submit url to terminal directly, by adding specific terms (example https://www.pair.com/support/kb/paircloud-downloading-files-with-wget/). so we can manually add terms for wget, youtubedl, etc.. once we visit a page, we click right click or on the menu bar and select send to terminal and then we select wget or ytdl, or other. 😎integration of 7 for 6) 9) if i select 10 tabs an option to copy urls and maybe add support for 7) or 4) 10) a way to save such things to favorite without need to use bookmarks. in such way we know exactly where we get such files if someone ask us where we get that. the problem is that files show such metadata, but a lot of times is missing. 11) about 10) the feature of yesterday https://link.ws/edgevvss1 can help too. 12) a way to autorename all downloaded files, example if i use macuser A edge profile B i want on all my files a name like " xxx - macA edgeB" 13) renaming can be used for other goals too, like add the title of the post to the pdf, the url, or other information. 14) smart macos auto tags: we configure specific rules "like from website xx add tag xx" and add tag macA and edgeB too (related to 12.) 15) optionally add comments, but tags are much more useful. 16) like 5) an option to download files by source urls in specific folders. 17) torrent support like coccoc (i already reported that as comment in another post) 18) integrated vpn (same here) I copy the wish of another user here too
