Good News: Google is finally killing off Chrome apps, End support for NaCl, PNaCl, and PPAPI APIs
Google said Wednesday that it will begin to phase out traditional Chrome apps starting in June, and winding down slowly over two years’ time. Chrome extensions, though, will live on. This is good, because the new Chromium based Microsoft Edge isn't compatible with Chrome apps which are basically the same as Chromium extensions. so with this update, Microsoft won't be needing to add any compatibility for those apps. With this continued progress, we are expanding upon our earlier announcement and will begin phasing out support for Chrome Apps across all operating systems as follows: March 2020: Chrome Web Store will stop accepting new Chrome Apps. Developers will be able to update existing Chrome Apps through June 2022. June 2020: End support for Chrome Apps on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Customers who have Chrome Enterprise and Chrome Education Upgrade will have access to a policy to extend support through December 2020. December 2020: End support for Chrome Apps on Windows, Mac, and Linux. June 2021: End support for NaCl, PNaCl, and PPAPI APIs. June 2021: End support for Chrome Apps on Chrome OS. Customers who have Chrome Enterprise and Chrome Education Upgrade will have access to a policy to extend support through June 2022. June 2022: End support for Chrome Apps on Chrome OS for all customers. Also end of support for NaCL, PNaCL and PPAPI, are all good news for everyone. They are all Google-specific technologies. most of the stuff built upon them only require Google chrome browser. removing them also removes that restriction and makes everyone happy. Cheers everyone! So, I've had an ongoing issue with my Pixel 4 XL running Android 12 that I've been ignoring until it really got in my way. That's finally happened. I'm unable to access the managed Play Store on my personally-owned device because I'm unable to sign in to a Google account. I wasn't sure what the issue was at first until I tried adding a Google account and realized that's what's blocked. According to this post and reply by MatthewButcher, this is by design. I didn't have this issue on my old Galaxy s5. Has anybody else ran into this issue? If so, were you able to find a fix?5.1KViews0likes4CommentsLet us Import browser data from Google chrome beta and canary to the new Edge
With the new options enabled in the sync: Addresses, phone numbers, and more And Passwords the Edge is getting closer to the full sync. I would like to import my saved passwords from google chrome canary to the new Edge; but it is not supported, only the stable version is supported. correct me if i'm wrong but I think the difference is only in the location where google chrome beta/canary/stable save the browser data. if that's the case then it shouldn't be hard at all to implement this. it will make life easier for a lot of people, right now if i want to do it i have to install a stable chrome first, import data and uninstall it.4.8KViews3likes3CommentsExtensions are not being updated automatically nor manually if downloaded from Google web store
Extensions are not being updated automatically nor manually when a new version of them becomes available in Chrome web store where they were first downloaded from. one of those extensions are ublock origin. *when I say manually I mean going into extensions page and manually clicking on the update button. PROBLEM (PP): 1 Classification: GOOGLE PRIORITY IN MY OPINION: 10 on a scale from 1 (low) to 10 (high) I like that i don't need to click 10000 install extension messages, i just see 2 banner where i need to confirm, all other is done automatically. Where is the problem? i lose the whole setting of my extensions. 200 extension in random mode that need to be reconfigured one by one. Please try to save the exact position of my chrome extensions, so that i see the same in edge too. Reorder 1 account with few extensions is a point, reorder 50 is another. i just wish to continue same workflow i'm doing on chrome with chrome://flags/#extensions-toolbar-menu support on edge, since such google apps with old ui are not compatible with apple cpu soon**. google has no idea to revert such thing back (now i restarted another discussion about the extension problem). this is why i want to start to use edge for such accounts. for me is ok if you implement this feature in 2021 or 2022 too, but please add it. at the end now i'm still using sierra - mojave on all my macs. i wish i could simply tell edge "connect to google sync and download extension order file". so you import such setting without need to activate google sync on my mac. i just need a web login. Between the 2, the fact that edge should be able to keep extension order is more important. ** we need to remember that both chrome dev and beta sidebyside version (and enterprise version soon too), that google just released, are not chrome://flags/#extensions-toolbar-menu compatible.2.7KViews0likes7CommentsLet's discuss Microsoft decision for choosing version 79 as first stable release
I think I know why Microsoft has decided to stay behind Google Chrome's release cycle and it is actually pretty smart and good. Let's discuss this everyone, I do hope that developer team or Microsoft employees correct me if I'm being wrong. So I think Microsoft decided to release version 79 as the first stable channel for the new Edge insider browser, and to be intentionally behind Google Chrome's release cycle, so that Microsoft browser will be more stable than Google Chrome stable. In case you're not aware, Microsoft marked version 79 to be the first release of stable channel for the new Edge insider browser due to release in 15 January 2020. while Google Chrome stable version 79 was released December 10 2019. This gives Microsoft a 35 days gap where they can hold on and wait for more bug fixes to be released for each version of Chromium from Google before they include it in their own browser. Because when Google releases their stable builds, they always release some other minor updates for it later, mostly minor bug fixes and such. Microsoft can wait for all of them to be released and include then in their version before stable release. Because Microsoft is dealing with lots of companies and enterprises so their Browser is more important and mission critical than others. Another good thing and advantage that I can think of about this 35 days gap is that Microsoft is not exactly following Google's features and road map. Microsoft has a different road map for their exclusive features that we, the users, ask through feedbacks, so it doesn't really mean that Microsoft is behind Google Chrome in terms of available features and abilities.2.6KViews5likes4CommentsSS45 + BBSS1: reverse video search
Suggestion (SS): 45 + Bing Suggestion (BBSS): 1 Classification: BING PRIORITY IN MY OPINION: 4-5 on a scale from 1 (low) to 10 (high) About a better integration with Bing Image reverse search function and Edge i already wrote different post in the past. Now what Edge and Bing should improve is to reverse search videos: 1) add a button overlay over videos to reverse search identical videos, this means 1a) show HD videos if the video is in SD 1b) if the video is 20s long, show me the original video (example 1m) 2) similar video suggestion based on an interval inside the video or a frame 3) integrate for a specific frame an image reverse search function (without need to use screenshot) 4) show exactly a list of all websites that integrate such video (a bit like facebook does with images now) 5) face recognition: same like the feature i already wrote you about image reverse search 6) automatically detect all songs inside the videos and write a list 7) if the video is in czech, show me websites that offer the same video in english. 😎improve auto translate feature 9) add option "open original video directly, without showing me that inside bing videos" PS: i think that Microsoft is much better with suggestions and reverse search compared to Google. Google in the last time removed a lot of features and create an ugly UI (which can be reverted back in some points thanks to chrome extension, a bit like we can do with Facebook old UI or Reddit or etc.) About Bing Images: i think Bing should integrate something like the old google, without opening a separate popup. You should allow cmd to open multiple tabs too. At the moment you continue to open single popups. Instead you should open each popup inside a new tab. With Bing Videos cmd works very good. Only Bing Images creates problem2.4KViews0likes5Comments
