Given: A SharePoint List (SPL) called Contractors with the following columns: ContractorID // Display name of the default ID column ContractorName Another SPL called Reports with the following columns: ReportID // Display name of the default ID column ReportNumber // Calculated column Contractor_ID // Lookup column referring to the ContractorID column of the Contractors SPL The calculated column, ReportNumber, would have a formula similar to: = [ReportID] & "-" & Contractor_ID Question: Does SharePoint Lists support the use of a Lookup column in the formula of a calculated column? If so, I need help on the proper syntax for the formula. (The formula above is not working) Thanks in Advance86KViews1like9CommentsForce Office Files to Open in Desktop App (via link, from web parts.. in all cases)
I want to force Office files stored in SharePoint to open in the desktop app - NEVER in Office Online apps. I have configured the site and the Document Library but opening in the native app only seems to work when navigating to the file in the DL and clicking it directly. Web Parts seem to always open the web app, as do links copied via the "Share" or "Copy Link" options in the DL. I've made up quick video to show and tell: https://youtu.be/SvJd2_TLsmw Note - while I was making the video, I stumbled upon a workaround for when we share links internally via e-mail (and maybe I can use the same workaround when sending files in Teams.) I also fumble through trying to explain what I've been toying with as far as other workarounds.. the limitations of my technical capabilities will be apparent! I already looked at several other posts, e.g.: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/SharePoint/Creating-a-shareable-document-link-that-forces-a-document-to/m-p/296647#M2429183KViews1like10CommentsAutoNumbering Columns in SharePoint List
Good morning, I have a Sharepoint list used for tracking my documents. I manually number each document, but this has become challenging over the past month. Is there a way to automatically create a unique ID? I need something that starts with the two-digit year and has the document number created that year. for example, 22-205 22 for the two-digit year 205 for the document added that year. The number will also need to be reset every year. Once January first, 2023 comes, the following document created will be 23-001. We have a requirement for our New Modern Communication Site to have a stock ticker. I can't find any way to get this on a modern site? Any thoughts, Ideas? I found a few widgets, but they are not in an iframe and will not work. I could not find any 3rd party apps/webparts. Thought maybe somebody might have an idea. My next thought is to create a flow that gets the information from AlphaAdvantage and saves info to a list and then just use CSS to display the list item on the page... any thoughts ideas appreciated.Solved31KViews1like9CommentsSharepoint Files is on Read Only Mode when opened with Office Desktop
Hello SharePoint Community, Just wanted to know if you encountered similar issue wherein any Sharepoint files are on Read Only mode when opened with Office Desktop. 2 Tenants so far are affected. It was working before but 2 weeks ago is when the issue started. Test made so far: - No issue when accessing online - Found out that the affected users are using a different version of Office apps which consist of Pro Plus 2016 and Home and Business 2019 - Non-affected users were using Apps for Business version ( case for both tenants) - Had to switch the version of the affected users to Apps for Business to fix the issue Ask: - cannot find any documentation if there is a recent update that caused this issue for non-365 office version installed. Any insights is appreciated. Thank you27KViews0likes7Commentsunable to open Excel file from Sharepoint
"Hello, I am experiencing issues with certain users unable to open files from SharePoint in Excel desktop, although they can do so in the browser. Accessing files from local drives or OneDrive is functioning correctly. This problem is affecting multiple SharePoint instances and arose after the MS365 update. The error message 'You can't open this file' appears. Can anyone assist me in resolving this issue? Thank you26KViews0likes2CommentsHow to hide "New item" title on SharePoint List Form?
Hi there, I have a SharePoint List with a PowerApps customized list form, however when viewing the app on SharePoint full screen (via NewForm.aspx), it shows this annoying 'New item' title, that I can't seem to figure out how to remove. There doesn't seem to be any settings, and I opened the site in File Explorer and looked at the NewForm.aspx file and couldn't find the title in the code. Any help?24KViews0likes19CommentsSharePoint Online vs. Microsoft Teams; Planner vs. Project; Sway vs. PowerPoint
It seems with the coming of such apps that Microsoft may have muddied the waters for the enterprise users and has left the IT teams to figure out how to provide guidance and or governance with regards to their usage considering the investment into such products as SharePoint Online, CRM Online, and Project Server Online. We have a E3 license and all of our users are now on O365, but with the coming of such Apps, we're left to figure out if we need to maintain a SharePoint Online or Project Online prescense on O365? There's no clear comparisons that we can draw from to know who is the intended audience for such apps, or what are the clear differences between them; e.g. Teams and SharePoint Team Site? For the most part our IT team has been left to its own devises to figure out what are the differences and more strangely to know what our corporate strategy should be. Should we let users use Teams, and Planner and opt out of SharePoint and Project/Project Server, or not? Are their any guidance out their by Microsoft that we can refer to that provides us guidance on each of these apps, their intended purpose and audience, the pros and cons in comparison to SharePoint Online, Project or Project Server? IT teams have been left on their own to figure all this out with very limited resources and or time to provide any meaningful guidance and or governance. Our current understanding of these particular apps are the following, Planner is a light version of Project, Sway seems to be a light version of PowerPoint, but we are thrown in a loop with Teams? It doesn't seem to have cross-site search capabilities (it creates silos), the cross-collaboration is limited to those invited, beyond that we have no idea what the pros and cons are for its use and or how to acurately compare it to SharePoint Team Sites. Any assitance anyone can provide would be very much appreciated.Solved24KViews5likes15CommentsSharePoint Mobile App (iOS and Android) won't open 'link' content types from a document library
I have a client occasionally creating 'links' (URL) within their SPO document libraries with the 'Links' content type. These links open as expected from a desktop browser. They will not open when browsing to it from the SP mobile app. I apologize if this is a duplicate entry but I've been searching online fruitlessly. Cheers!22KViews1like17Comments
