We have a number of external Yammer groups.  Some were created in anticipation of having external users but these have not been added as yet.

We are looking to switch to Office 365 connected Yammer groups but I'm interested to understand what will actually happen to our current external groups.  Those where we only have our own employees as members will they continue to function as expected (i.e. users will not know any difference - they all have O365 identities and we will be enforcing the O365 identity logon).

We also have a couple of groups that have employees from another organisation which is also on O365 and we are essentially allowing a B2B login for them into those external groups.

Thx.

Solution

External groups don't yet support Office 365 group connections. They will remain the same and they will work in the same way. Users in your network will use their O365 credentials if you're enforcing O365 identities, but external users simply use their Yammer account. O365 identities might have been enforced for them as well, then they have to use their O365 credentials as well. Yammer doesn't yet make use of Azure B2B collaboration.
