Issue with External Network Option Available to Users

Hey, y'all,

 

In our Yammer Network Settings, we have set the External Networks creation to only allow admins to create.  However, I just had a non-admin user successfully create an External Group.  Am I missing a setting somewhere or misunderstanding how this setting works?

I suspect you are misunderstanding, any user can create an external group.
Networks and groups - very different things. You can't restrict creation of external groups without disabling both external groups and external messaging. That's an independent decision from allowing external networks.

Thanks to you both.  So is there a setting somewhere to restrict external groups and messaging, as @Chris Slemp mentioned?  Can you point me there?  I guess we haven't flipped that switch!

There's no setting - you have to contact support. I will say that I highly recommend NOT opting out of external messaging. It enables some of the most powerful business scenarios for any team that works directly with partners or customers. My suggestion is to find a way to make the policy and oversight work for you rather than try to clamp down on this.

You can also start slowly, and uncover an option at a time. Right now we're able to join other networks' external groups, but not create our own, and our business model has us opted out of external messaging.

 

Though we do have two external networks where we interact with customers and partners, so we aren't feeling the lack of collaboration there.
