Hello,
We're looking to replace our aging intranet with a more modern, enterprise social experience. Would Yammer be a good candidate?
Thanks

It might be. What are the use cases or goals for the intranet? What kind of content needs do you have, or features you're looking to provide as part of the platform? Does Yammer fit with those use cases or features?

As @Kevin Crossman indicates, it's like everything else in IT - depends on what you're trying to do. But Yammer could be a very strong part of an open enterprise collaboration strategy.

Yammer certainly is a capable social platform. I'd start with your strategic objectives for social. First asking "What problem are you trying to solve and how can Yammer help?" Have seen Yammer replace intranets for sure.

I would say that Yammer is not an intranet, it can be part of the intranet. SharePoint is the intranet.

Touchy subject but my personal belief is that Yammer embodies much of what is desired from an "Intranet." Some will not like that all have an equal voice but our companies need new ways of organizing which an open-by-default network like Yammer supports well. Take a look at the Organization of the Future report from Deloitte 2017 Global Human Capital Trends.

Thanks for all the feedback. Very good points here.
We'll continue to look at the needs and see if this tool will work. I need to get feedback from the business to understand if they want a one way communication platform or a social platform like Yammer or Workplace. Personnally, I am gravitating toward a social intranet, but we'll see.
The nice part about all of this is there are plenty of choices and options.

Drew McMillan - head of IC at Virgin Trains in the UK - has reported on their work to ditch their intranet and move to Yammer. Interesting reading... http://www.communication-director.com/issues/life-after-intranet#.WMhq4hJ96lM
