Word help: building block work-around.

Copper Contributor

I am looking to make a template for my work environment, but what I have done so far hasn't worked. I have tried saving the word document as a .dotx format so that I can save building blocks to it, but it doesn't seem to stick (building blocks don't transfer) for when others open the file. The building blocks I have created include a photo, name, phone number, and position/title of the respective person effectively signing the document. Drop-downs don't seem to be able yo get the job done. Anyone have a work-around for this without having to transfer a building block file to everyone anytime there is an update (new person added to the list of those possibly signing or a change in the document)?

Other users would need both the template (*.dotx) and the document (*.docx) for the Building Blocks to be available and work properly.

You can store these in either the specific document template or in a Global Template.

Anyone using the building block, as a building block, must have access to the template. Probably the simplest way to do this is if they are in a Global Template which is loaded on every computer as a part of that user's starting Word. This is done by putting it in the user's Startup Folder. This can be stored on a central network location and updated to a user's Startup Folder as a part of the network login process. It can be a .dotx format template.

If in a document template it will be more problematic because the template must be "attached" to the template.

A building block, when simply inserted, becomes text (and/or graphics) and loses its nature as a building block. If you are inserting using a Building Blocks Gallery Content Control that content control can only be used in a document/template that has access to the building blocks. The content control can be set to stop being a content control once used, in which case the text/graphics are present.

Workgroup Templates - Document Templates

If in a document template, that should be in the organization's Workgroup Templates. Those can be located on a central network drive and used from there. The location of Workgroup Templates is set on each user's computer. As with the global templates, my preference is to have these on the user's computer and updated from the network location with network login.

Why Symbol is missing Romanian capital letters ǎ ȋ â at Latin extended?

I need them when I wrote a title.

Please post this as a separate question. It has nothing to do with the original question and people who can help you will never see it here.
