My Microsoft Word software has been freezing repeatedly--to the point that the software is unusable. I've tried quick and full repairs of the program, but the issues persist. Desperately seeking advice. Next I'm thinking of removing and reinstalling the software. If I do so, will my files remain on my computer? From where can I download the software? Thank you in advance.

@viperwhee7 Re-installing the Office installation will have no impact on the files that you have created as while they were saved BY the Word application, they are not saved IN the application, but in the folder into which you saved them.
See the KnowledgeBase article "How to troubleshoot problems that occur when you start or use Word" at:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/921541
fore, see the Article “Why do I get a "stopped working message when I start my Office application at:
Or
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3091375
If that does not help, then you might remove all traces of the Office installation by downloading the fixit from the following article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501
saving it to your computer and then running it.
Then, after re-starting your computer, reinstall Office by logging into www.office.com/myaccount with your registered email address and click Install Office.
BEFORE REMOVING THE OFFICE INSTALLATION, MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT AND THAT OFFICE IS ASSOCIATED WITH IT!
If you actually have Office (locally installed) rather than the subscription version provided through Office 365, then you can't get Office through your Microsoft Account. Instead, see
