Special character in Word 2019 versus Word 2021

Copper Contributor

I am taking a course in Word 2019. I am doing the homework on Word 2211. I am supposed to find special characters but I don't find them. This is the homework:

  1. Type +- and press the SPACEBAR. Notice that Word displays the plus symbol.
  2. Type 3 \neq 43. Notice that Word converts the \neq acronym into the not equal sign (≠;).

Has Microsoft Word phased these applications out?

Hi,
It's an autocorrect option you might need to activate.
File > Options > AutoCorrect Options…
Check Math...
Kind regards
