Hello,
I'm having an issue while using Word Online. Turns out, when I type 1. Word doesn't automatically start a numbered list. Any ideas about what could be the problem?
Thanks.

Here, typing the number 1 certainly gets converted to a numbered list in Word Online. This works in the main body of the text. Are you perhaps typing somewhere else in a document?

Hello, thanks for replying.
No, I'm typing it in the body of the document and it doesn't seem to work. I have added a picture for what it's worth.
Thanks.

As I mentioned, I can't reproduce it here. I do find that the presence of a space is crucial. It is necessary to type a space after having typed the number, for the conversion from typed to automatic numbering to occur, but your screen shot certainly looks like there is a space present.
Does this problem occur in one particular document, only, or in all documents that you edit in Word Online?
