Equations no longer center correctly in a table created in Word

Copper Contributor

Hello,

Since a Word update (November or December 2022), the mathematical formulas created in a table no longer center correctly. There is a slight and annoying shift to the left as soon as I use the equation editor, while this is not the case for normal text at all. I didn't have this problem before.

Has anyone ever encountered this problem and been able to solve it?

Here is a screenshot of the problem...

I have already called Microsoft's online chat, but the technician was unable to solve the problem. He made me do a lot of manipulations that were ultimately useless.

Thank you in advance for your help. I'm on an iMac M1 with MacOS Ventura 13.1 and I use Word 2019 for Mac, version 16.69.

Can you upload a sample document so that we can investigate the issue.

I agree with Doug that a sample with the problem would  help.

You can save to a cloud location and post a share link here.

I suspect that the paragraph formatting inside the cell includes a left indent or left cell padding.

Hello,

Here is, as requested, the link to a Test.docx file that I created to show you the problem encountered : https://1drv.ms/w/s!ADpcSSIfiRBfgSE

Thank you !

@LaurentS23 If for each equation, you select Change to Inline

The result will be

Hello Doug,

Thank you for your feedback! It doesn't work for everything. For example, for fractions or integrals, the command "Change to Inline" reduces the size of mathematical elements, which I do not want.

I modified the document Test.docx from the address https://1drv.ms/w/s!ADpcSSIfiRBfgSE to show you the impact of your solution.

@LaurentS23 Another way to adjust the alignment is to set a Left Indent

An alternative would be to adjust the left margin of the cells.

Hello Doug,

Uh... It's becoming DIY. Wouldn't there be a more rational and effective solution? In fact, I didn't have this centring problem at first and it was following an update of Word (I think) that it appeared, which is a shame. I also don't understand why this could have happened...

Wouldn't there be a parameter to change so that it is not valid directly for all tables containing mathematical formulas?

Thank you !
I have the same problem after I update my word 365, It is the bug of new version.

This is new bug after microsoft word updated, there is no good solution. Hope this bug will be fixed as quickly as possible.

Note, this is not the place to get any changes made in Word nor the attention of developers at Microsoft. This is an independent user-to-user support forum. MS does not see anything you post here. The way to get their attention is through the feedback mechanisms.

The issue has been reported to the Microsoft Word Product Team who have advised that the issue is being investigated.
Thank you ZhangPeng1983 and Doug for your feedback! I hope that Microsoft will quickly solve this problem in a future update...
