Comments showing as balloons?

Did something happen with Word where you can only view comments now as balloons? I prefer it when they just get added directly to the right side of the page in Print Layout view, as shown below. I can't figure out where in the settings to fix this. Thanks.

They have appeared in balloons since Word 2003 at least.

I believe you have encountered the so-called modern interface for comments. For more, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/using-modern-comments-in-word-edc6ae71-0a2d-49fe-8faa-986....

If your version of Word allows it, you can turn off the modern comments, temporarily, by clearing the option "Enable modern comments" at File > Options > General.
