Reconnecting mapped drives in another domain

Occasional Visitor

We are seeing an issue with our Windows 10 (1803) systems reconnecting mapped drives in another untrusted domain.  We are successful in mapping the drive, but we are noticing that the next logon attempt will lock out the account used to re-connect the drive.

The users is not prompted for credentials to the other domain.  It appears that Windows 10 sends a password to the other domain that locks the users account.  We do not find anything in the Credential Manager and we are not configuring the share to remember credentials.

We unlock the account (or the users wait for the account to unlock itself after X number of minutes) and the user attempts to re-connect to the network share again.  The user is immediately prompted for credentials to the other domain.  Once they put in the credentials, the user can access the share again.

Has anyone else experienced this?
