Hi,
I tried to upgrade a Windows Server 2025 Datacenter (Desktop Experience) 26040.1000 x86_64 virtual machine using the Windows_InsiderPreview_Server_vNext_en-us_26280.iso. This failed in quite a few tested constellations. Any workaround on this without a clean reinstallation?
Constellation1 with setup dialogue setting 'setup download: not right now'
1) iso inside the vm, mount, and ran setup.exe
2) extracted the iso inside the vm, and ran setup.exe
3) attached the iso from outside the vm, and ran setup.exe
Setup dialogue: 'I previously installed Windows Server on this PC', Windows Server 2025 Datacenter (Desktop Experience), Accept applicable notices and license terms, choose what to keep: Keep files, settings, and apps.
-> setup.exe stops unexpectedly.
Constellation2 with setup dialogue setting 'setup download: Download updates, drivers and optional features(recommended)'
-> setup.exe (in task manager: Modern setup host) freezes, CPU goes up to 100%.
Constellation3 with boot from ISO
Keep files, settings, and apps is not selectable
