Windows server upgrade

Copper Contributor

Hi,

Is it possible to upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard or Datacenter from windows server 2008 R2 Enterprise?

I've also checked in our Microsoft Volume license center and couldn't find the windows server 2012 R2 enterprise edition. So what is the best practice and to which version of windows server 2012 R2 should I upgrade?

Thanks in advance

Hello!
This article covers what you are asking: But there are some factors to take in to account like the current applications the servers are running and the Domain Functioning level if they are domain join. Also if there is an Active directory Domain Control server being updated then there are additional steps to take.

An in-place upgrade is possible, but never recommended. Steps would vary depending on roles or applications involved.
