Windows Server 2016 - SMBv3 - Roaming Profile/Offline Cache

Copper Contributor

We have a problem with sharing files on a Windows Server 2016 in connection with roaming profiles and offline cache mechansim. There is a home share on the server which is used for offline caching of notebooks. In addition, there is a company-wide profile share in which the appdata roaming branch is also stored.

When a user logs on to a system, the entire profile is loaded from the server and written back when logging off. We have determined that these files are still in use on the server for a long time when logging on (Read) and logging off (Write) (Open Files) although the processes on the client have already been completed here. If the user logs on again immediately after logging on, the user may have to wait longer before logging on - the read file release on the server is apparently awaited here. In some cases, temporary profiles were also created (timeout !?).

Does anyone have a suggestion how we can trigger file sharing on the server right after completion? The tips with oplocks and leasing on the server is somewhat critical, since we still need offline caching to another share on the same server.

Thanks for your support.
