W2019 GPMC displaying and reporting GPO setting incorrectly

Copper Contributor

Good day,  I would be very grateful to know if there is any fix/ workaround for the following problem (or that it cannot be recreated, in which case it's presumably time to withdraw gracefully and try some fresh builds).

Scenario:

Build a Windows 2019 Server Domain Controller.

In GPMC, create a new GPO.

In GPO Editor, configure setting: Users Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Media Player -> Networking -> Configure HTTP Proxy -> Proxy Type: 'Use browser proxy settings'.

In GPMC, view the GPO under the 'Settings' tab; the 'Proxy type' setting shows (incorrectly) as 'Autodetect'.

The same (incorrect) setting also appears using the GPMC Modeling wizard and in 'gpreport.xml' if the GPO is backed up from GPMC.

Whatever value is set for 'Proxy type' in the GPO editor, it seems it is always reported incorrectly in GPMC and gpreport.xml.

I have seen this behaviour in W2019 machines built locally from media and also in a 'Windows Server 2019 Datacenter' VM created in Microsoft Azure "cloud" (which makes me just slightly more confident that it's not "user error").  Both my local W2019 machine and the Azure VM were patched with cumulative update KB5028168.

I do not see this behaviour on my W2016 domain controllers.
