Does anyone have a deep dive information into how the setting "Print directly to the Printer" under Advanced spooling options for the printer works?

Specifically looking for information regarding the following:

I can see a print job being queued briefly when it sent to be printed, but if a job fails and errors out, will you be able to cancel the job from the print server or will you need to cancel the job on the computer that sent the print job or on the printer?

If you enable direct printing, the client sends the job to the printer. So the print server doesn't do anything in that case. For the second question, I am not sure. I think it depends if the jobs are sent to the printers queue, or the client parks them in the clients queue until the printer is ready to work. I would just try it out.
