Windows Server 2016 Security and Editions

Brass Contributor

Are any Windows Server 2016 security features dependent on using the Datacenter edition? Alternatively, are there any specific licensing requirements to use security features?

The short answer is, yes, there are certain features that require Datacenter edition to deploy in production with the appropriate scale and HA, shielded VMs being one such example. Software-defined networking (SDN) and micro-segmentation would be another, See https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/cloud-platform/windows-server-pricing

Oh, OK. I'm surprised that shielded virtual machines isn't part of the Standard edition, but thanks for that link.
