Windows 11 possibly causing Edge and other browsers to crash

Copper Contributor

final edit:

months after the clean reboot and eliminating ad blockers this seems to be working well.

I've been having consistent problems with browser crashing since the update to Windows 11. I've seen it with the Edge browser and the Brave browser, with and without extensions, and on multiple user profiles. Everything is updated, there are no pending updates or restarts.

I initially thought it was 2 extensions working against each other, but the problem persisted after uninstalling all extensions and even when trying on a different profile without any extensions installed in the browser.

EDITS / summary:
- sfc /scannow did not find any issues
- Edition Windows 11 Home, Version 21H2, Installed on ‎10/‎30/‎2021, OS build 22000.348, Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.348.0
- after doing a clean reboot, I believe the problem is either UBlock Origin or one of the system boot processes as I’m still getting the crashes

@weeloshwhaleI had this issue for over a month and it affected most browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge...) and it was so frustrating, I tried what was suggested here and still the problem persisted. For me the crash occured when I try to resize / move the browser window or drag a tab outside of it.

So I tried this:

- Uninstalled my graphic card driver (Nvidia) (From Programs & Devices Manager) ;
- Removed everything related to it (additional software like Nvidia control panel, Game Experience...) ;
- Downloaded and installed the driver from Nvidia website.

And now the problem is resolved, I have no more crashing in browsers, I'll post and update if this changes.

I think most likely it was the graphic card driver that was installed via Windows Update had issues and caused the crash.

I hope this helps.

@AlphaCopie

Yesterday, according to your message, I updated the graphics card. I'll tell the results asap here. Hopefully it works...

Thanks AlphaCopie

Brand new computer our company invested in to solve a problem with lack of power to do what we need. Our business DEPENDS on this computer, and all it does is crash when ANY browser is launched, including Chrome, Opera and Edge. Even our live streaming software, which is dependent on browser technology is crashing. Microsoft, Windows 10 worked fine. Our entire business is at a standstill because of this problem. PLEASE HELP
As said, I downloaded the graphic driver from the manufacturer and installed these. The amount of BSOD is less, but still occurring every now and then. So installing the drivers has helped (Intel UHD Graphics) and I can live with only three times a week. At least all browsers work fine now, so maybe, @AvatarsRadio, this could be a solution for you as well.

@Frank68 thank you for the kind words and concern. we downloaded the installer for Win 11 onto a usb stick and blew the entire OS away with a fresh copy direct from MS. I am really hoping it helps! Will post if it does.

I faced tis issue with all browsers crushing - actually they were stopped or freeze. All Sunday lost for finding solution 🤬.
The solution in my case was very simple: uninstalling McAfee WebAdvisor extension. Immediately went back to normal.
Hope this helps at least some of you as well.
