Windows 10 Insider Preview 17093.1000 (rs_prerelease)
Status: Pending restart on Friday February 9, 2018 at 12:20am
As noted above, I have tried this build17093 install three times and it always failed on the 75% "working on updates" part where my PC was "shut down" and then upon power up tried "attempting to recover" but restarted and restored the previous version build 17083 ...

I wish someone would help or explain why this happens when I  had no previous issues with build install during the last build releases of rs3 ... I really did not do anything to my PC which is a i5 2nd generation Dell Inspiron n5110 and has worked well with both Windows and Linux operating systems ... Please respond as I cannot install build 17093 ...

Tried everything known to man but could not get 17083.100  to install. reverted back to 17074 and got 17093.1000 to install but was very unstable with intermittent restarts and green screens  and " unexpected kernel mode trap "  errors. Ran the driver verifier - what a nightmare . Now back to 17074 and all is quiet. I have three other PC that are running 17093.1000 with no issues. I am  Microsoft Certified

Hi Steve, I am curious how you are making out on your install of Windows Insider Preview builds. I am back to 17074 with absolutely no issues. Going to wait a few cycles before I attempt any new builds. I have upgraded BIOS, checked for latest drivers and the complete 9 yards and listened to a lot of BS from Microsoft Support staff. Sent them my error log , still waiting. LMK what you have done to correct your problems. Updated all my other machines to 17101.1000(rs4_relese) plain sailing but my main PC with all the bells and whistles seems problematic with these new builds. Wish you luck.

Hi Danny, I've put the updates on hold because the latest one just will not install properly (had 4 failed attempt. It simply ties up my PC for several hours then reverts to the previous version.

Wise decision . I have other  machines I can use , thinking of installing 17101.1000 but it appears 17083 & 17093 have to be installed first and that's a no-no for me.Maybe  subsequent builds will be more agreeable to our respective PCs

I wish I could go right to 17101.1000 without going through 17093.1000 as I really cannot get the latter to install as it always stops at around 75% "working on updates" stage at the DOS ... From your comment which is very much appreciated, it seems one cannot skip builds ... My PC is presently paused for updates and I am currently running from Ubuntu 16.05 LTS ... interestingly, Linus has the same warning as Microsoft on preview builds which is why they have the LTS revision as trial builds can be unstable ... Perhaps this is the way these days with all the hackers and scam artists trying to get your information to basically steal your money so there has to be continuous software work to counter threats ... I understand Linux not saying this or similar as it is really open source and there is no central control but Microsoft should basically have their employees understand and relay correct messages as Microsoft is still a company supporting and controlling their main product and thus, have more central control ... Apple is another controlled organization that keeps their IOS completely closed and guarded unless someone leaks something about the supposed degradation forcing customers to buy new which, from my experience, batteries and electronics in general do wear due to use and processing heat (as to why fans are important) ... I guess once these "r3" builds get wrapped up I may probably heed Microsoft's advice and opt out of the Insider Previews as the annoyance, although minor, are a bit much for me ....... My silly comments as a result to my frustrations ................

Hi Steve, I backed up everything I needed and did a fresh install of the latest ISO available, did not keep anything. After signing up into the Insider program the next update available was 17101.1000 and this installed without  hitch.

That's good Danny, but I have to say that you having to do that defeats the concept of easy upgrades.

Final comment to this issue ... My computer released its paused updates and started preparing, downloading and installing build 17101.1000 (rs4_release) taking 3 hours to complete before restarting ... Unfortunately, as I got frustrated when this issue began, I partitioned my computer with Ubuntu 6.01 and when it was downloading this build I deleted the partition of Ubuntu but forgot to repair the Ubuntu "grub" pre-loader and thus, upon build 17101.1000 restarting it went into the Ubuntu failed re-loader ... my fault and my stupidity as I believe that 17101 would have installed as told by a very helpful commenter in the Windows Insider tech community ... anyway, I reinstalled build 17025 (171020_1626) and Microsoft updated me to build 17074 (180116_1539) in slow ring to which it stopped upgrading me ... I am back to where I was on January 12, 2018 ... As I am "chicken" now and do not wish further annoyances, I will remain in slow ring as 17083.1000 is not any better to where I am now ....

After 5 failures with 17093.1000, 2 with 17074.1002 and 4 with 17101.1000 I'm stopping the previews as they simply will not install on my pc.
Interestingly the quality updates (last one KB4074588 on 16 Feb) install just fine.

Hi Thomas , I feel your pain. Don't forget when you belong to the insider preview program, you a Microsoft's guinea pig and some of these builds have issues  and error codes point problems which maybe incorrect. In my case , I had issues with getting 17083 to install , the error codes pointed to device driver problems, which I looked into to best of my ability to no avail. I searched the web for every solution that might have worked for somebody, but nada. Consulted Microsoft Tech Support and became POed with them , because they suggested a fresh install, which I should have done. My solution was a fresh install. Maybe down the road a new build will install and hopefully you will feel better. It is what it is, I make my living off Microsoft products and am quite familiar with the frustration involved with new builds.

Thank you for the kind words ... You are correct about signing up with Insider Preview and to be honest Microsoft does give me ample warning before signing up ... I also like Microsoft and make a living with computers integrating equipment with protocols like TCP/IP, R2485, and BACnet and thus, wish to see the development ... I was just surprised when 17093 came installed quite nicely on my PC but during the "working on updates" at around 75% some code told my PC to shut down and once a PC shuts down during the update process it is difficult to recover ... I guess I expected the Microsoft techs to kind of explain this a little instead of the usual response of silly stuff that everybody who has a computer usually does or a fresh install ... Unfortunately, I  had to do a fresh re-install as I made the mistake of deleting a Ubuntu partition before and without repairing the Boot "grub" installer disabling my PC's ability to restart ... Anyway, Windows 10 is back and my PC is working well in the slow ring ... Thank you very much for your kind and intelligent comment ... Take good care and keep learning ...
