Windows 10 Insider Preview 10.0.17692.1004 (RS_PRERELEASE_FLT)

Copper Contributor

When I try to install Windows 10 Insider Preview 10.0.17692.1004 (RS_PRERELEASE_FLT) on my system if fails and I get this cryptic error message- An update is being prepared for your device, but it's not quite ready yet. We'll keep trying or you can try again now.

I have tried clearing the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder and the DataStore.edb file but this has not worked. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Andy.

I have the same problem.

Same problem on my Yoga 720

Same, does Microsoft want to put forward a solution or are you just sitting there reading all the comments and stuffing your faces with popcorn??

Thanks in advance.

same problem here! very frustrating can't find anything online

Same, have manually cleared SoftwareDistribution, used sfc & DISM, update troubleshooter etc and still the same error.

yep done the same too . still same error
I am not using Kaspersky, the strange thing is that one of my systems that is running Windows 10 home did upgrade successfully, it is the laptops which came with Windows 10 Pro which are having the issues.
Funny, I switched to Fast Ring to get Insider Preview build 17711 and that successfully installed.

Same, as soon as I switched to fast ring the update dropped into place. Not AV or anything else, just a badly delivered update.

Same here. It has been the same for nearly two weeks now.
Look The Earl's answer.

Yes - I know. But I have test machines in both the slow and fast rings, and both 32 and 64 bit, and this one for the slow ring is supposed to be the .1004 release, whereas the fast ring had the .1000 release.

And this one came through fine in the 32 bit version. Just not the 64 bit version.

Sometimes I wonder if it's even useful to be on the Slow Ring. There are no help resources anywhere, and nobody pays any attention because anybody that can help is on the Fast Ring. And yes, the Slow Ring build .1004 has more fixes than the same Fast Ring build .1000
