Unable to re-install Windows 10 on former W10 Insider Device - Error 0xc0000272

Copper Contributor

Hi all

I am getting a bit desperate. A couple of weeks ago i have installed Windows 10 Insider on a new HP notebook. Now I try to re-image the device with the current Windows 10 (1703), but I am unable to do so:

PXE-Boot:

PXE-Boot works, but as soon as the WIM-file is almost loaded Windows crashes with error Windows Deployment Service Encountered an error (0xc0000272). This happens on multiple, independent WDS Servers. The logs do not show anything useful.

USB-Boot:

The device refuses to boot from an USB stick that works properly on other devices.

I have reset pretty much everything I can think of - the BIOS settings, TPM and fingerprint etc.

Switching between Secure Boot / Legacy does not make a difference.

Any suggestions from the community?

Thanks for reading,

- Maurice

Important additional technical detail: the problem only occurs in UEFI boot mode, legacy boot mode works fine.

Solution

Solution: After exchanging the motherboard of the computer UEFI-boot was working again. So I guess it was a hardware error.
