SOLVED

Phone link says I already have the phone set-up with another app

Copper Contributor

The Phone Link on the computer is where the issues are and under Calls

I have lost the ability to use the phone feature.

I've followed calls troubleshooting.

I removed all Bluetooth apps including unpairs. This didn't fix the issue.

I've terminated, repaired, and reset then I cleared these again and uninstalled.

Redownloaded it from the Microsoft store and still cannot connect.

Microsoft store and Windows Updates are up to date.

On the Samsung S20fe phone

I've cleared Link to Windows/Link to Windows Service.

The phone is all up to date

Update: The issue is happening as soon as I confirm the pin with the computer and phone to connect to calls. It will then say that I have another device linked using Bluetooth.

Solution

@albiekOH330  -

Open command prompt as admin:

Type> gpedit

Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Components>App Privacy

Enable: Let Windows apps make phone calls

Close gpedit

In the same command prompt as admin:

Type> regedit

Goto>Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\AppPrivacy

Set LetAppsAccessPhone to "1"

Close regedit

Close Command Prompt.

Lastly make sure you computer and your phone are on the same WIFI.

Reboot and test.

@Lobo2020

Thanks so much. That fixed the issue!!

I saved your fix.

Thanks for that. All sorted here too.
In the regedit, I am not able to find the >Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\AppPrivacy. There is not appprivacy in the Windows 11 that I am using. Could u help

@rajuppi

In Regedit

and in the folder Windows,

#1. Make a key and name it AppPrivacy

#2. Now in AppPrivacy, Make a new DWORD and name it LetAppsAccessPhone

Now double-click on the name LetAppsAccessPhone and set the value at 1

Close Regedit

Reboot and you should be able to use the phone function

I tried the above method. It does not work. Then I reset the blue tooth and then paired again and then I did the same with the link to windows. All methods including the restart do not work. I can control the earphone and Bluetooth and dial nos from the laptop but the voice does not get shared. On the same lines I can play and stop the audio book using the laptop but here again the voice does not get shared

@Lobo2020

I have the same issue as the original asker, but when I type gpedit into Command Prompt it does not recognize it as a command for any internal file, and regedit opens but does not have a file for AppPrivacy to edit. I think perhaps this is because I am using Windows 11 Home without the Group Policy Editor feature pre-installed? In order to fix the issue, do I have to install a GPE and then tell it to let apps use the phone, or is there something else I can do? I tried all the other fixes the first guy tried. I do have an iPhone, could that be the problem? The website seems to imply I should be able to make calls even with an iPhone, but I could have misinterpreted this.

yo mate, it totally works! thanks a lot
I tried the above solution it worked and the app work fine but after some time the 12CHID driver stop working properly and the mouse stop working and the mouse start worked after setting
LetAppsAccessPhone value at 0 but now the call functionality is not working.
thank you very much, just thank you very much.
just tying @albiekOH330 and @Lobo2020 together with my own little nugget ty everybody confirmed this full sequence works windows 11 home + galaxy

First start an admin command line session like this:
windowskey+R (run) -> "cmd" -> <ctrl + shift + enter> (admin mode) click yes in prompt to allow admin and you're in

Now you need to enable gpedit by copy/pasting the next two commands to your admin command line:

FOR %F IN ("%SystemRoot%\servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy-ClientTools-Package~*.mum") DO (DISM /Online /NoRestart /Add-Package:"%F")

FOR %F IN ("%SystemRoot%\servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy-ClientExtensions-Package~*.mum") DO (DISM /Online /NoRestart /Add-Package:"%F")

Then run this command from your admin command line:
"gpedit.msc" <enter>
Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Components>App Privacy
Enable: Let Windows apps make phone calls
Close gpedit

Then from the same admin command line type:
"regedit" <enter>
In the registry editor goto Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
Create a new key and name it AppPrivacy
Now in your new key AppPrivacy, make a new hex DWORD and name it "LetAppsAccessPhone" (no quotes triple check your spelling if its wrong none of this works)
Now double-click on the name LetAppsAccessPhone set the value at 1 and click ok
Close Regedit

Reboot

@bcar4 thanks for this......so far, your suggestion has been the only one to work. In my case, the reboot wasn't necessary.

Wow, not sure why that is necessary but it worked a treat, thank you very much!

This worked :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:Thanks a ton@bcar4

Fix Confirmed! Thanks!!!

@Lobo2020
This worked for me without needing to reboot, I just pressed the "Retry" button.
Thank you for that!
Dave

@bcar4 Thank you so much for the detailed instructions, this finally solved it for me.

@Lobo2020

Wow.  Thanks.  Clearly, MS has more kinks to work out w/ Phone Link and iPhone...
