Maximum deployments MDT can do concurrently?

Brass Contributor

We have over 4k windows 7 computers to upgrade by January '18. What is the maximum number of upgrades that a single MDT server can handle (aside from hardware limitations - assume a high end and 10g connected server) at once? Also, we're not going to use SCCM at the moment because it's evil according to our LANDesk folks... politics. =)

Anybody doing linked deployment shares? Unfortunately we have over 5k gateways.

Hi Todd,
this computer are in same location or distributed in various locations?

If these deployments are on same location and you are using MDT with multicasting is possible make several hundred in concurrently deployments.

Hello, sorry for the delayed response. Is there anything official documented from Microsoft on this? If not, is there any reliable anecdotal proof out there?

Our MDT server is a single instance for the enterprise in a single location with many networks (10g backbone). We have multicasting turned on (slow, med, fast selected) in WDS. I've noticed that when 15 or more deployments are going, it consumes 95% of network utilization and things get pretty latent usually during the driver injection and .WIM laydown. Also I noticed that each deployment can open a few dozen files per session.
