Are there any Pre-Requisites to Windows Admin Center?

Copper Contributor

Dear Community,

I have created a VM and have installed this feature on it. I want to ask are there any specific requirements regarding RAM assignment, VHD creation and Processors allocation to the machine as I feel like the sreources are less than it requirement as I gave it to 12GB and its lagging, when I use admin center on this machine locally. Will it be slower no matter how much I give the Resources?

Hi @Seema_Kanwa655!

Some things to check in this scenario:

1. RAM Assignment: The lag you are experiencing might be related to insufficient RAM. While WAC itself doesn't really need much RAM, the overall performance depends on the workload of the servers you are managing and the underlying OS of the VM. A baseline of 12GB RAM should generally be sufficient for light to moderate workloads, but you may need to increase it based on the specific demands of your applications. So please check this firstly.

2. VHD Creation: The size and configuration of your VHD can also impact performance. Ensure that your VHD has enough space to accommodate not only the Windows Admin Center but also any other applications and services running on the VM. Performance can also be affected by the type of VHD (dynamically expanding vs. fixed size). A fixed-size VHD often offers better performance.

3. Processor Allocation: The number of allocated processors (vCPUs) can significantly affect the performance. WAC isnt CPU-intensive, but the total workload of the system should be considered. Allocating more vCPUs may improve performance, especially if other processor-intensive tasks are running concurrently.

Also another thing, network speed and storage I/O performance can influence the responsiveness of WAC. Slow network connections or disk speeds can lead to apparent lag.

Please let me know if this helps!

Can you described "lagging" more in detail where and when you experience this?

Generally it's best to install WAC on Server Core then open it from a different, machine via MS Edge.

It's known that WAC can be slow in some operations but I would need to get more info.

Dynamic or fixed vhdx isn't really a thing except your underlying storage is using HDDs.

4 vCPU and 8 GB dynamic RAM should be sufficient. If there are few users using it simulanously.

You can check the RAM and CPU remotely up to 7 days via Server Manager (enable Performance metrics in AM in context menu).

With lagging I mean When I open Different VMs one by one to check their specific details It takes time to load coming back and forth. Therefore, I am asking as why is it happening like that? Or when Iam going through Different Features of Windows Admin Center, I Notice this slowness in Loading Different things that's why I asked about this.
