Issue: Computer experiencing freezing episodes randomly, even during light usage.
Hardware:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5900X (not overclocked)
- Motherboard: Gigabyte 570x Elite Wifi
- GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC
- RAM: Gigabyte Ballistix 3600 32GB
- Storage: Samsung 970 PRO NVMe
- Operating System: Windows 11 Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1778)
- Applications: Steam, Chrome, Brave Browser, Discord
Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
1. Removed all SATA SSDs, running only on the new NVMe drive.
2. Reinstalled Windows 11 and installed the latest Nvidia driver for the RTX 3080.
3. Conducted a thorough RAM test which passed without issues.
4. Ran Prime 95 stress test on the CPU, monitored temperatures which remained within optimal range.
Observations:
- The system runs smoothly while gaming (playing Apex Legends, DOOM, Battlefield).
- However, random freezes occur when idle on the desktop or using a browser.
- Event Viewer analysis did not reveal any prominent issues.
- Addressed DCOM errors, but the freezes persisted.
Attempts:
- Considered switching to Windows 10 on a separate drive, but encountered freezing during installation and post-installation.
- Suspicions are leaning towards a hardware-related issue, as the problem persists across different Windows versions.
Assessment:
- Considering potential CPU instability or failure as a factor due to stability under load.
- Contemplating the idea of adjusting CPU voltage slightly higher than usual to enhance stability during normal operation.
Seeking Recommendations:
Seeking advice and fresh suggestions to resolve persistent freezing issues regardless of the attempted operating system installations. Open to any insights or guidance provided.
