Windows 11 Cumulative Update Preview (KB5030305) doesn't install

Copper Contributor

I have been trying to install this from Windows Update.   It downloads to 10%, installs to 35% and quits.  I've run the troubleshooter, the "net stop-ren" routines and the same thing happens.  I have another machine that this installed perfectly.  Please help!

That is a preview update and its currently being tested in the Windows Insider Program.. that update will release to everyone on the next Path Tuesday!

@Deleted I am in the Windows Insider Program for this PC.  As I stated, one of my other machines did install this update.

Does it show a error in the windows update history?
To fix the 0x800f081f error, you can try the following methods12345:
Use offline .NET Framework installer
Use SFC and DISM scans
Install the update manually
Configure your Group Policy Editor
Enable the .NET Framework using DISM
Reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
Reset Windows Update Components
Perform Windows Update Troubleshooter
Run the Windows 10 reset
It seems according to Bing, this is related to either a group policy of a Net Framework files are being corrupted.
@Larry Lovering have you been able to resolve this issue with the update? I am having the same issue but in my update history I receive an error code 0x800f0983. I have run troubleshooters, contacted Microsoft Support on numerous occasions and submitted feedback through the feedback hub days ago and I have not received any response or help with debugging files or reinstalling the update.
0x800f0983 is a Windows update error that may occur due to corrupted system files or incompatible drivers123. Some possible solutions are1243:
Run the command dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup in the Command Prompt as administrator, then restart your device and check for updates again.
Run the command sfc /scannow in the Command Prompt as administrator, then check for any errors and report them in the Feedback Hub app.
Delete the file compatscancache.dat in the folder C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther, then reboot your device and try to update again.
Check for any device with a yellow exclamation mark in the Device Manager, then update or uninstall the driver for that device.
I did all of this. SFC said no errors, DISM no errors, deleted compatscancache, dat and rebooted and no drivers with exclamation points. I rebooted after every step.
I see, thanks for sharing!

what is the current build?
23H2, build 22631.2271
Thanks for the reply Larry!

KB5030316 is 22631.2271, so thee already have it 🙂
Does other updates install fine? This update is not 100% necessary and likely next week when the next Beta update comes, it will also include this update...

Also, report this in Feedback Hub!
Yes, all the other updates did install fine. And so did last month's cume update.
I see, so lets just wait until the next one comes and see if it instals, sounds good?
I ended up installing the latest Insider build, and it is installing the updates (later than KB5030305) just fine. I am now on 23545.1000
facing exactly the same issue. tried everything available on internet.
