I have been trying to attach a USB-Serial cable to a Win 11 laptop to run a serial peripheral.
System recognizes the cable, but when I try to run the application to access the peripheral, I get the message "Serial port COMx is in use" (x is whatever port number is assigned by Windows or by me).
I spent hours removing / disabling much of the bloatware that came on the laptop, and laptop vendor refuses to help without charging me (brand new laptop!).
Learned today that it might be the TPM 2.0 chip in the laptop blocking the port.
HOW DO I STOP THE CHIP OR WINDOWS (whichever it is) FROM BLOCKING THE PORTS?
I tried the exact same cable and software on Win 10 desktop (which has the TPM 2.0 chip also) and the port opened just fine. But I need the portability of a laptop.
IS the only solution to go buy a Win 10 laptop?
Thanks in advance!
