After logging into my Windows 11 Pro laptop with version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.2861), I encountered a puzzling situation. A user account with an identical name to my regular account, but lacking my email address, prompted me to enter a password. Despite several attempts with different passwords, none have proven successful. My intention was to access this account to potentially delete it, but I am uncertain if repeated unsuccessful login attempts will result in being locked out.
To access my laptop, I typically resort to clicking on my known account in the lower left corner of the screen and utilizing my PIN. Upon reviewing the settings, I only found one user account listed under 'Settings > Accounts > Other users', and the netplwiz utility also confirms just one account. I have no memory of setting up my laptop to bypass the password requirement for login. Interestingly, online forums have highlighted similar cases where users encountered issues post-adjusting password settings. Notably, I did configure my laptop to skip the lock screen, which might be a factor.
An attempt to resolve this perplexing scenario by following Brink's guide was unfruitful. The tutorial depicted two accounts, in contrast to my single account. Moreover, the option to toggle the password requirement was unavailable to me as instructed in the tutorial.
The origin of this dilemma eludes me, and I seek guidance from someone capable of aiding me in rectifying this situation.
