How can I download audiobooks on Spotify to my Windows PC?

Copper Contributor

Hi,

I’ve recently started exploring the audiobook collection on Spotify and found some great titles that I’d like to listen to offline. However, since I don’t have a Spotify Premium account, I’m unsure how to download them directly to my computer.

I'm familiar with various software tools and converters, as I often use them in my work as a technical writer, but I'm not sure which one would work best for this specific task. Ideally, I’m looking for a method that can download audiobooks on Spotify in a format compatible with my PC, without compromising the quality.

To download audiobooks from Spotify to your Windows PC, you'll need to subscribe to Spotify Premium. With a Premium account, you can download audiobooks directly within the Spotify app by navigating to the audiobook you want, tapping the download button, and ensuring your device is set to offline mode to listen without an internet connection. Keep in mind that these downloads are tied to your Spotify account and can only be played through the Spotify app, so they aren't accessible as standalone files on your PC.

@WilsongoaYou can do this by recording the audio on your PC. First, open Spotify and navigate to the audiobook you want to record. Then, launch your recording software and set it to capture audio directly from your computer's sound system. Start playing the audiobook on Spotify, and simultaneously start the recording. This method allows you to capture the audio as it plays and create a high-quality recording on your PC.

Once the recording is complete, you can save the file in your desired format, such as MP3 or WAV. Keep in mind that this process may take some time since you need to record the audiobook in real-time.

In short, this is free but indirect way to download audiobooks from Spotify on Windows PC.

You can't easily multitask while you're recording. If you try to use your PC for anything else, you might mess up the recording. And let's not forget, if there are any notifications or sounds from your computer during the recording, they'll get mixed in too. The safest way is to use software to download audiobooks on Spotify on Windows computer.

@Wilsongoa  Since you said you're familiar with software tools, you might explore screen recording software that can also capture audio. Tools like Audaclty or OBS Studio allow you to record audio playing on your computer, not download audiobooks on Spotify using software. This is a way to "capture" the audiobook as it plays but requires you to play it in real-time and may involve some post-editing to clean up the file.

Apart from free audiobooks and others available to Premium subscribers, users are required to buy audiobooks alone and then download them for offline listening. But the downloaded audiobooks are not playable on your Windows PC. If you'd like to download audiobooks from Spotify to the computer, you can utilize a third-party tool like Audi-Cable audio recorder. It converts audiobooks to local audio files without any quality loss. I started with my Spotify Free account, and it also works.
