Upgradeback to Pro after clone from Home

Copper Contributor

Hi all,

I am buying a new computer for my wife that is Windows 11 capable. The new computer comes with Windows 10 Pro. Her current computer is Windows 10 Home. I want to clone her current drive over to the new drive. That will make the new drive Home. I will have a valid Pro license with the new computer. How do I upgrade the cloned drive back to Pro?

Solution
You can upgrade a Windows 10 Home to Pro, either using generic product key or via buying upgrade from Microsoft Store.

If you've Pro edition key, use generic product key first to convert edition and then activate with your own key:

Or, you can use this guide to buy Pro upgrade:

Hope this helps!

Hi Kapil,

Thanks bunches! The new computers hasn't arrived yet - 09/22/2021 is the ETA - but I will try that as soon as it comes in.
